The investigation
The examination takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes . The doctor will first ask about your medical history and any family history of skin cancer (anamnesis). Then, your entire skin, including your scalp, all visible mucous membranes, and your nails, will be examined . For this, you will need to undress completely. In our clinic, we use a dermatoscope (epiluminescence microscope) for every skin cancer screening to examine deeper layers of the skin. Skin changes, especially pigmented spots, are magnified tenfold using the dermatoscope, allowing for a more precise diagnosis. It is also advisable to refrain from wearing makeup and nail polish so that any suspicious areas of skin are not obscured.
